Hydrogen
Energy Solutions

Hydrogen, with its unique properties, small molecular size and potential for embrittlement of certain materials, demands specialized valve design and material selection compared to standard equipment used for other fluids.
Indra supplies ball valves and needle valves specifically engineered for hydrogen service, available in all design configurations, Floating and Trunnion types, and optimized for hydrogen production and distribution with low fugitive emissions per ISO 15848-1 and materials selected for long-term durability in high-pressure hydrogen service.
Critical Characteristics for Hydrogen Service
- Specialized Material Selection
- Hydrogen’s small molecular size and potential for embrittlement of certain materials demands specific material selection compared to standard valves used for other fluids — ensuring long-term structural integrity and leak-tight performance throughout the service life.
- Low Fugitive Emissions
- Hydrogen service ball valves are provided as minimum with Fugitive Emission certification to ISO 15848 Part 1 (type approval) and ISO 15848 Part 2 (production certification), and are gas tested — meeting the most stringent requirements for hydrogen infrastructure.
- Gas Tested
- All Indra hydrogen service ball valves are gas tested as a minimum technical feature, ensuring reliable performance in service conditions where the small molecular size of hydrogen demands the highest levels of tightness and containment.
Our Role & Capabilities
Indra manufactures hydrogen service valves entirely in-house at our Italian facility near Milan. Our hydrogen service ball valves are available in all design configurations — SB, SBB, DB, and DBB — in both Floating and Trunnion types, covering the full range of hydrogen production and distribution requirements.
For needle valves and monoblock/monoflange products, hydrogen service versions are available across the range, with materials selected for long-term durability in high-pressure hydrogen service and optimized for low fugitive emissions per ISO 15848-1.

The Indra hydrogen service product range covers Oil & Gas, Refining & Petrochemical, and dedicated hydrogen energy applications — from hydrogen production and compression to high-pressure distribution networks and storage. Our in-house engineering capability enables rapid response to project-specific requirements, developing custom configurations and materials solutions for the most demanding hydrogen service conditions.
Every Indra hydrogen service valve undergoes rigorous in-house testing, including high-pressure gas testing up to 15,000 PSI in our dedicated bunker, fugitive emission testing for both production and prototype to ISO 15848-1 and ISO 15848-2, and complete NDT inspection (PMI, UT, DP, MP). This comprehensive quality assurance ensures reliable, leak-tight performance in the most demanding hydrogen service environments.
